We’re delighted to announce that we will again be supporting Fareham-based The Moving On Project as our Christmas charity this year.
The Moving On Project was set up in 1995 to help improve the emotional health and wellbeing of young people locally, supporting 11-25 year-olds in Fareham, Gosport, and the surrounding communities.
As with so many businesses, charities have faced huge difficulties in the past year resulting from the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and have also had to look to different ways in which to deliver their services. The Moving On Project specialises in delivering face-to-face counselling - all of which had to change in 2020.
Lynne Martin, Manager at The Moving On Project, told us, “It has been such a tough year for us.
“We stopped for a fortnight at lockdown, so we could retrain to be able to counsel on the telephone and via the internet. This was a massive change for us, and required the sorting out of a huge amount of protocols and paperwork.
“But it’s been incredibly successful, with 80% of our existing counsellors continuing to counsel throughout lockdown. They have been real heroes and sheroes! Many of them had life-changing events to pass through themselves, but continued to support our young people in need.”
It's wonderful that the project has been able to adapt and continue to deliver such a vital service - and one even more necessary in view of the reports of the negative impact lockdown and COVID-19 pandemic restrictions can have on mental health. We’re so glad, at Cobweb, to be able to support this worthy charity.
Lynne Martin explained to us that the Project relies solely on grants and donations to provide their services. “We’re, therefore, extremely grateful for Cobweb’s £1,500 cheque,” she said. “But it’s not just the financial donation that makes a difference - it’s having your support, and which has been a tremendous boost to our morale, particularly over the past year.”
We wish all at The Moving On Project the very best for the Christmas holidays, and for 2021.
