March 2018 - Updates for Microsoft Office 365

This month sees Office 365 updates from Microsoft which will help businesses improve communication and collaboration, as well as creativity and productivity. New capabilities will also help organisations prepare for the introduction of GDPR (the EU’S General Data Protection Regulation) on 25 May 2018.

Helping creativity

New Editor tool in Word

Editor enables users to see a summary of correction opportunities while actually editing, via an overview pane, as well as offering style recommendations which utilise AI to keep with the overall tone.

Better 3D animations in PowerPoint

PowerPoint users can now add animation effects to 3D images on one slide, with animation effects specific to 3D objects easily applied using the intuitive Animation Ribbon.

Easier Vector graphics

Users are now able to remodel SVG pictures into Office shapes using the Convert to Shape tool, available within in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Enhanced collaboration

Participation in a team within Microsoft Teams was previously restricted to those with an Azure Active Directory account. However, anyone with a business or consumer email address can now be invited onto the platform as a guest, with access to meetings, files and chats.

StaffHub updates

An update to StaffHub gives first-line workers greater control over managing their work day, with a StaffHub Now tab incorporating an intuitive display of scheduled work days, notes, activities, and breaks.

Enhancements for administrators

Naming conventions for Groups

Administrators can set naming policies across Office 365 Groups, and ban use of certain words, with naming conventions automatically applied to a new group.

Meeting GDPR requirements

With the General Data Protection Regulation due to come into effect on 25 May 2018, Microsoft has introduced capabilities into Office 365 to help organisations meet the new, stricter, data requirements.

Compliance Manager enables administrators to evaluate and manage risks and schedule tasks in order of priority for compliance purposes. Azure Information Protection also now has a tool to allow users to automatically find, label and protect sensitive data across cloud services, platforms, and on-premises.

If you’re looking for more information about GDPR and how you can help your organisation work towards meeting the regulation’s requirements, our GDPR hub has informational eBooks, plus details about our GDPR compliance support package – offering services including GDPR awareness workshops, readiness assessments and security posture reviews, as well as consultancy services, delivered by independent GDPR consultants.

Better servicing and support from Windows

To assist enterprise customers in maintaining their corporate environments, Office 365 ProPlus updates include servicing extensions for users of WIndows 10.
