Virtually everyone who works in an office-based role has to give a presentation at some point in their career. Love them or loathe them, presentations have the potential to influence the minds of colleagues, board members or clients, and can even help to boost your career.
Most of us turn to PowerPoint, a programme featured in the Microsoft Office 365 suite, as a helpful visual aid for giving presentations. As well as being intuitive and simple to use, PowerPoint facilitates the creation of professional-looking slides that enhance the audience experience.
Recently, however, Microsoft revealed the launch of a number of great new PowerPoint features powered by artificial intelligence (AI) that will help take your presentations to the next level. One of these new features - Presenter Coach - even has the capacity to nurture your public speaking skills so you can charm your audience during your next big presentation.
To help you get to grips with some of the changes to PowerPoint, we’ve collated some of our favourite new features below:
In some ways, the art of public speaking is an elusive thing. Whilst some people carry a natural charm and seem to effortlessly remember their words, others find the experience very stressful and can end up garbling their way through a presentation. Fortunately, however, there are tricks that even the most nervous of public speakers can learn to ensure that every presentation goes smoothly. This is where Presenter Coach comes in.
Designed to improve the confidence and delivery techniques of its users, Presenter Coach features a special rehearsal mode that offers on-screen guidance about the quality of their presentation skills. The AI-powered feature will analyse factors such as the presenter’s speed of delivery, use of filler words, or use of culturally insensitive expressions. It will even pick up on any unfortunate use of profanity - great for the foul-mouthed amongst us!
Once users have finished rehearsing, the programme will generate a detailed report with metrics that will help you hone your skills.
As well as improving your presentation skills, PowerPoint has introduced new theme ideas to help you make your slides as visually compelling as possible. The process is very simple. All you have to do is type some words on to a new slide and Designer will recommend an array of new photographs based on the content you have entered, along with complementary colours and theme options. All images are fully licensed for commercial purposes and will help you to generate beautiful presentations quickly and easily.
Any company worth its salt has a set of corporate branding rules in place to ensure that its visual identity remains coherent. This includes template slides for presentations. To ensure that your slides look their best while remaining within brand guidelines, Design Ideas has a new AI feature that opts for the most suitable layout for your content. This includes the capacity to intelligently crop pictures and automatically recommend suitable images and icons. You’ll never have to feel restricted by branding rules again!
