Microsoft has announced that from 1 February 2017 there will be no Microsoft Products and Services Agreement (MPSA) programme pay-as-you-go Azure licences for new customers.
Microsoft’s aim is to guide customers towards licence options which will enable them to enhance value from Azure services, with their preferred delivery through the Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) programme.
This programme was set up by Microsoft specifically to help strengthen the reseller-customer relationship, with the reseller able to manage the complete Microsoft cloud customer lifecycle.
Purchasing through a partner in the CSP programme makes it easier for customers to purchase relevant tools, products and services, and they benefit from regular, known-quantity invoicing, as well as from the opportunity to build and develop a long-lasting relationship with their trusted advisor.
The IT market research organisation IDC in Successful Cloud Partners 2013 reports that 84 percent of customers are looking to be involved in an established relationship with a vendor to trust as their Cloud Service Provider.
Speaking about the end of the pay-as-you-go licence option for new customers, Richard Smith, Microsoft General Manager, Commercial Licensing, says, “Our goal is to deliver a connected, modern purchasing experience for customers that enables new, innovative cloud and business scenarios, and quickly and easily scales as needs grow.
“To get there, we need to adjust how offers, products, and services are made available in existing licensing programs, to align them with these ways of doing business. We will reduce unnecessary changes, while prioritizing changes that bring customers an improved experience as quickly as possible. “
Julian Dyer, Vuzion CTO, comments, “By guiding customers towards working with partners and the CSP programme, Microsoft is helping to ensure that customers gain as much benefit as possible from the services they’re investing in.
“This is an excellent move by Microsoft. Encouraging MPSA customers to work with the IT reseller channel will improve Azure deployments and drive customer business value.”
Existing customers currently purchasing Azure on a pay-as-you-go basis through the MPSA will be able to continue to do so.
