Microsoft Teams | June 2019 updates

The latest updates to Microsoft Teams were announced recently, showing once again why it is the ideal solution for SMBs. Microsoft's ongoing commitment to optimisation and improvement is helping deliver superb productivity gains and rich communication between collaborators with powerful features and innovative technologies. With Microsoft Teams, your workforce can focus more effectively, and all collaborative work has greater transparency than you will find anywhere else. By adopting Teams, perhaps as part of a Microsoft 365 package, you get a seamless move to a digital workplace that will empower your in-house and remote workers to be able to share and collaborate effortlessly. Let's take a look at the recent update announcement from Microsoft.

Improvements right from the word 'Go'

A fundamental improvement to the installation experience ensures new Microsoft Office 365 subscribers will automatically have access to Teams, as well as the regular updates that come with it. It's all about opening and optimising channels of communication and collaboration, and a big part of this is security and compliance. As such, Information Barriers have been introduced to help avoid conflicts of interest or confidentiality breaches within your organisation - perfect if you have ethical wall requirements to adhere to.

New communication features to assist with online interactions

The group chats in Teams are now able to accommodate things like launching large-scale projects by enabling you to add up to 100 people to the conversation. And if you need to post something that stands out in a channel, you can now post a special 'Announcement' that includes a background image and headline, ensuring important information isn't missed by anyone. Beyond this, users can now find Private Teams in searches and request to join the ones they need to be on. Admins from those teams can approve or deny every join request, helping to streamline the process of people accessing the groups they need.

Other key updates

  • Microsoft Office 365 Government GCC customers can now enjoy interoperability between Teams and Skype for Business.
  • Microsoft Teams can auto-update with significantly less network bandwidth usage.
  • GitHub for Microsoft teams improved with Messaging Extension, Bot and personal app functions for easier collaboration.
  • Automation is now easier with Azure Pipelines for Microsoft teams.
  • Meeting design can be controlled more comprehensively through Meeting Options, with a single toolbar to control meetings and calling for reduced screen clutter. Furthermore, Chrome Meetings now support video.
  • New resources for specialist versions of Teams designed for healthcare and education environments.

Microsoft Teams is the most powerful and functional solutions for enterprise mobility and collaboration to seamlessly create a digital workplace for your SMB. It can be acquired in various ways, but a Microsoft 365 subscription is one of the most budget-friendly options, bringing a host of powerful Microsoft tools to your organisation, complete with regular updates. However you choose to use it, Teams will be a valuable asset in your business' future if you choose to use it.
