Microsoft Stream available for Office 365 Enterprise

Officially launched 20 June 2017, Microsoft Stream could be regarded as an evolution of Office 365 Video, incorporating various new intelligent features.

Available for Enterprise customers, James Phillips, Corporate Vice President at Microsoft Business Applications Group, says, “We are excited to announce the general availability of Microsoft Stream and the new intelligent features that will enable greater productivity and user engagement with video.

“Microsoft Stream provides a common destination for video management, with built-in intelligence features, deep integration across Office 365 and the IT management and security capabilities that businesses of all sizes require.”

New features include:

Searchable Transcribed Audio enables users to type in keywords and go straight to a point in a video where the keywords are spoken

With Face Recognition and Detection, users can identify where people appear in a video, indicated by a clickable timeline

The Linked Timecode feature displays timecodes in a comment section, and provides links to the relevant content or transcript to enable users to jump to wherever they want within a video

Usability and Security

Stream videos are accessible across the full range of devices and screen sizes, with closed captioning, keyboard navigation and high contrast mode supported.

While a user’s homepage can be personalised with video suggestions, trends and followed channels – similar to YouTube – and video content easily uploaded, managed and shared (with a couple of clicks), security features assured with built-in encryption and links to Azure Active Directory mean that only authorised recipients can view the videos.
