For SMEs, the world of cloud tools and services continues to expand. When it comes to the many options available out there, Microsoft Azure continues to be at the top of the pile. With a continually improving setup, it's specifically crafted to support small businesses in meeting challenges and growing sustainably over time.
It’s no surprise that June 2019 brought many changes and additions to Azure, with several new features added to the mix for the specific purpose of supporting SMEs in business. When it comes to IT infrastructure, Microsoft continues to be on top, with plenty of new features springing up each week. Here are just a few worth shining a spotlight on for June:
A new feature in Azure for businesses with an active paid subscription, FastTrack offers a new way to utilise Microsoft’s cloud system. Using design principles, engineering tools and customer experience information, businesses will be able to guide their customers through a production process from design to configuration to development.
The ideal addition for many SMEs, this optimised, fully-managed file service provides consistent, reliable performance by utilising SSDs that are suitable for any form of workload. With a millisecond of latency, this is an excellent improvement in comparison to older models.
The Azure API Management system has received a much-needed full-service update to both fix bugs and introduce new features. These additional features include support for W3C tracing formats plus the ability to update policy certificates through the Management API.
A new and innovative use of the Azure Cognitive Service, Immersive Reader is currently on public preview as an upcoming tool that will allow developers to enhance the reading of text and comprehension without the requirement for machine learning expertise. This functionality will be an evolution of immersive reading technologies within Word, Outlook and Teams.
New updates to the Azure Monitor Log Analytics UI include increased flexibility to share links to queries, as well as copying functionality within the UI. Query history has now been made accessible, directly from any single instance of Log Analytics. In addition, columns and blades can also be changed in size as of this update.
Something we’re particularly excited about is the new-look modern portal that is currently being previewed in API Management, including increasing usability and a range of new functions such as automation and custom extensions. With an attractive theme, plenty of customisability and open source code, the portal will provide innovative new tools for use by developers in the workplace.
The next in a long line of Microsoft’s computer learning based projects, The Named Entity Recognition (NER) functionality is now generally available in both Spanish and English, as part of the Text Analytics API under Azure Cognitive Services. These entities include percentages, ages, currencies, dimensions and temperatures, amongst other types and subtypes.
An exciting new feature, Azure Maps has updated to include the new Spatial Operations feature, which provides services such as buffering around an area, geofencing and identifying the closest point between a base point and other locations.
As more and more clever features appear surrounding Azure, there’s no doubt this powerhouse of a business tool for SMEs is only getting better over time – and with so much showing up on public preview, there’s plenty to look forward to in the coming months too.
