A key announcement at Microsoft’s World Partner Conference (WPC) earlier this summer was that its Enterprise Mobility Suite (EMS) service is to be re-branded as Enterprise Mobility + Security.
The name change puts security front and centre of Microsoft’s proposition to customers as their businesses undergo a digital transformation and the importance of protecting user identity and content across all devices and apps becomes ever more critical.
“Enterprise Mobility + Security provides an identity-driven security solution that offers a holistic approach to the security challenges in this mobile-first, cloud-first era,” comments Microsoft’s senior director EMS product marketing, Andrew Conway. “Our technologies not only help you protect your organization but also identify breaches before they cause damage.”
Existing EMS customers won’t see any changes, aside from the current solution undergoing a re-brand to Enterprise Mobility + Security E3. The offering will still include Azure Active Directory Premium P1, Microsoft Intune, Azure Information Protection P1, and Microsoft Advanced Threat Analytics and the Windows Server CAL rights – the same as it does today.
However, Microsoft has previewed a new expanded plan, Enterprise Mobility + Security E5, which is scheduled to roll out in Q4 2016.
The new Enterprise Mobility + Security E5 plan will include new capabilities previously available standalone (Microsoft Cloud App Security) or in preview (Azure Active Directory Identity Protection & Privileged Identity Management, and Azure Information Protection). Enterprise Mobility + Security E5 will also include the existing EMS capabilities as well as these new technologies.
“Barely a day goes by without a new security breach hitting the headlines, meaning that securing an organisations’ data is top of the to-do list for CIOs and IT managers,” commented Cobweb Managing Director, Michael Frisby.
"However, in today’s enterprise, employees expect to access corporate data from a range of devices, locations and applications, providing a security headache for organisations’ IT departments."
“Microsoft Enterprise Mobility + Security provides the flexibility that businesses are demanding, enabling users to work from anywhere by providing consistent, identity driven secure access to their data across any device or operating system, on-premise or in the cloud. This provides organisations with the right combination of productivity and security, and offers them complete peace of mind that their data is totally secure.”
Enterprise Mobility + Security currently has more than 27,000 enterprise customers worldwide.
