Microsoft support for Windows 7 is over. It came to an end on January 14 which means Windows 7 users will no longer receive software updates, including critical security patches. So basically, if you’re still using Windows 7, you’re really vulnerable to cybersecurity risks, viruses and malware– it’s not a great place for your data to be.
So, what now?
Microsoft couldn’t have been plainer is pointing out the risks and recommended users invest in a new PC running Windows 10 to secure support and security updates. While you can install Windows 10 on an older device, Microsoft recommends you use it on a modern device with fast, solid state drives and more durable batteries. Windows 10 computers are said to deliver, on average, up to 28% faster start-ups, built-in security, and your favorite apps. Once you have bought a Windows 10 subscription, you migrate all your files from your old system to the new.
Upgrade for safety
Quite simply if you want to remain productive and secure, you’ll need to upgrade to Windows 10 which Microsoft says is its most secure Windows version yet and Windows 10 users should receive at least five more years of support.
Which is the version for me?
There are multiple versions of Windows 10, so you need to decide which is best for you. Cobweb can help you select the best package for your needs and for businesses that might mean migration to Microsoft 365 - Microsoft’s prime business application which combines office productivity suite Office 365 with Windows 10 and Enterprise Mobility and Security (EM+S).
Why Microsoft 365?
Or should the question be ‘Why Not?’ Because Microsoft 365 has the workplace functions and features on which today’s businesses rely while enhancing identity and content safeguarding management.
Increasing numbers of businesses are moving to Microsoft 365 - either from on-premises productivity systems or from Office 365, because of its additional features and its Windows 10 and EM+S incorporation.
Again, you’ll have to decide whether Microsoft 365 Business or the Enterprise version is for you – and again, Cobweb can advise. We’ll tailor our recommendation to your specific needs to ensure you gain the maximum advantage, supported by the 24/7 support of our cloud expertise.
So, if you’ve missed the Windows 7 end of support deadline – act now to safeguard your security and to ensure you’ve made the correct migration decisions for your current and future needs.
