Last March, I wrote a blog titled Microsoft Office 365 keeping businesses working. This was when snow hit the south, and I and a number of my colleagues found ourselves housebound.
The good news was that with Office 365, we were still able to contact each other, our customers, and carry on working as normal.
This week, we have colleagues attending Microsoft’s Global Education Partner Summit (GEPS) 2019 out in Seattle, US, (11-14 February) - and while snow in that part of the world is to be more expected than over here in the UK, we were surprised to learn this morning that, due to experiencing the heaviest snowfall for ten years, the conference sessions scheduled for the Microsoft campus would be moved to Teams.
Emailing to delegates that their "number one priority is to ensure your safety during this weather event", Microsoft was unable to guarantee that the campus could remain open for the whole of Monday. And, even if Microsoft is able to re-locate the Tuesday-Thursday sessions to a hotel more centrally based in Seattle, the sessions will still also be screened via Teams.
So, Teams saves the day! We’re not surprised by this, however, as it’s the Office 365 teamwork hub, and designed to empower employees - to help them work more efficiently, ensure meetings are more productive, while reducing costs for the business - and enabling communication across locations, as in Seattle!
Of course, Teams is not only of use to combat adverse weather conditions. Team members may be working across location due to many reasons - working from home, for example, or from different office bases - as well as in the same building. Because Teams brings many team-enhancing features to the workplace.
