Microsoft has today, Friday 20 August 2021, announced details of the forthcoming launch of the New Commerce Experience for their seat-based subscriptions – including for Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, and Power Platform.

Microsoft introduced a New Commerce Experience for Azure back in 2019, and are now extending the experience to these additional services because of the increased licensing flexibility it offers customers, with the launch date expected to be sometime in October 2021.

What is the New Commerce Experience?

Currently, only annual terms are available for licence-based subscriptions.

In addition to annual based subscriptions (paid on a monthly cycle), the New Commerce Experience offers a three-year subscription (for Dynamics 365 only), and a new monthly-term subscription.

There is a slightly higher price (plus 20%) for the monthly option, but this monthly subscription can be cancelled at any time, with no further cost incurred.

This brings greater flexibility to the SMB, for example – as if the business knows that 70 seats are going to be constant across the year, those can be purchased via an annual subscription, with additional seats bought on a monthly subscription to meet fluctuating requirements.

This pricing method also brings Microsoft into line with most other cloud providers.

What does this mean for you if you have existing Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, and or Power Platform licences?

You don’t need to worry!

Your current licences will run until renewal, with none of your services affected.

Once your licences are due for renewal, the migration to the New Commerce Experience will be seamless as far as delivery of your services and solutions are concerned, and you’ll be able to select either annual or three-year commitments or the new monthly licensing option.

Cobweb and the New Commerce Experience

Cobweb was invited to participate in Microsoft’s ‘early adopter programme’, and so ahead of the official launch we’ve been able to build up considerable experience of advising customers and managing licensing migrations to the New Commerce Experience.

This is also a fantastic opportunity for us to review and assess our customers’ needs on a holistic basis, and make sure their solutions and services are truly meeting their needs.

If you’d like to speak with us about Microsoft’s New Commerce Experience – whether you’re an existing customer and would like more information about how this will affect your current licensing, or new to Cobweb, and would just like more information about the new licensing system – get in touch via (and we’ll call you back), or call 0333 009 5941.
