Microsoft Teams is a powerful hub for team collaboration in cloud-based Microsoft Office 365, integrating people, content and a range of tools that can help your team collaborate more engagingly and effectively. Microsoft rolls out regular updates for all its platforms, and Teams is no exception. Here is what's new in the first updates of 2020.
Chat and collaboration
Read receipts: A simple but effective way to indicate whether or not your private messages have been read. They are an optional tool but will be very useful for many.
'Colleague Joined Teams' Notifications: Another simple addition that will inform you when someone is new to Teams so that you can connect and give them a welcome more quickly. The notifications appear in the activity feed.
Meeting and calls
Voice Administration: This is a new workload for your Teams Admin Centre. It enables customers of Microsoft Calling Plan to search, discover and set phone numbers for users. Furthermore, admins will have greater visibility into additional workloads.
ThinkSmart View for Phones: ThinkSmart View enables the user to manage audio/video calls via a desktop service with extra security features. It will be available in Microsoft Teams from March 2020.
CCX Microsoft Teams Phones: The Poly CCX Series of native Microsoft Teams phones come in a range of models designed specifically for Teams calling. They are highly customisable to optimise your user experience.
Microsoft Teams to be included with Office 365 ProPlus on the 6-monthly channel. By including this installation by default, there will no longer be a need for users to install Microsoft Teams separately.
Security and compliance
Safe Links: Protecting Teams users from dangerous URLs is a priority for Microsoft, and this tool verifies URLs in Office documents and emails as you click on them to improve security.
Cloud Communications APIs: The final addition to empower partners to create their own contact solutions. This update sees the addition of MS Graph Cloud Communications APIs, including Phone System Direct Routing and MS Graph Presence.
If you're not already using Teams with Microsoft 365 or your Office 365 package, you're missing out on the world's top remote collaboration solution. Microsoft is continually optimising and improving all its business solutions, so get on board and start leveraging the power of Microsoft Teams to enhance the productivity and engagement of your workforce.
