Cloud data security and back-up leader Acronis is warning of a new wave of cyberthreats emerging as bad actors add Generative AI to their toolboxes.
Acronis has identified rises in:
- AI-driven phishing attacks with extremely convincing fake messages and personalized scenarios, deceiving users into divulging highly sensitive information.
- Phishing beyond email with attackers exploiting communication platforms for phishing attempts.
- QR code-based phishing trend with theft of web session tokens to bypass MFA authentication.
- Deepfake exploitation with AI generated hyper-realistic fake videos and audio being increasingly used in business email compromise (BEC) scams and extortion threats.
- Attacks on AI models including theft and resale of API keys.
- Automation increasing the volume and frequency of cyberattacks allowing attackers to strike multiple targets simultaneously.
Staying Safe:
To stay secure in this increasingly complex cyberthreat landscape Acronis recommends:
- Ensure passwords (and your employees’ passwords) are strong and private.
- Never share passwords and use long, unique passwords for every service.
- Use password management software to help remember passwords.
- Use multifactor authentication.
- Lock laptops and desktops and limit access to them.
- Patch your OS and apps.
- Ensure auto-updates are enabled for popular software vendors.
- And should all else fail, an integrated cyber protection backup solution to maintain optimal performance, eliminate compatibility issues and ensure rapid recovery.
